How to prevent back pain during pregnancy

 

You most likely will not be able to completely prevent back pain or strain during pregnancy but there are some things you can do to help alleviate the frequency or severity of the condition.

  • Have your healthcare provider give you exercises that will support and strengthen your abdomen and back.
  • Use your legs when picking things up. That means that you need to squat - not bend over.
  • Wear shoes with good support and low heels.
  • Try to sleep on your side. It is also a good practice to place a pillow between your knees while sleeping.
  • Elevate your feet while sitting for any period of time.
  • While standing for long periods, place one foot on a box or stool to take the pressure off your spine. Switch your feet every couple of minutes.
  • Keep your back aligned properly by receiving adjustments by Dr. Youdem.
  • Get plenty of rest.
